The 15th EFAD Congress took place in October 2025 in Malmö, Sweden, bringing together leading experts and researchers from across Europe. Under the theme “Rethink, Reform, Sustain: Dietitians at the Forefront of Change,” the congress highlighted innovative research and effective strategies aimed at building a healthier and sustainable future.
As part of the session on AI and Dietetic Practice, BETTER4U was presented by Ioannis Papathanail, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bern, in his talk “AI at the Table: Redefining Dietary Assessment.” His work brings together AI, computer vision, and nutrition science to develop digital solutions that address the key challenges in dietary assessment. During the presentation, he provided an overview of the project’s mission and highlighted its promising applications in personalised nutrition, dietary recommendations and obesity management. Partners from the Karolinska Institutet and the International Hellenic University further supported BETTER4U’s visibility among the scientific community at the Congress.
Together, these contributions highlighted how AI can support dietitians and public health professionals in making data-driven and ethical decisions for healthier lives and a more sustainable future.
